Vision & Mission
The founding owners of Mountain Quest Institute, Inn, and Retreat Center, Dr. Alex, and Dr. David Bennet, had successful careers in DC. David, a nuclear physicist and neuroscientist, was the Chairman of his own engineering consulting company. His wife, Alex, served as the Chief Knowledge Officer of the US Department of the Navy. Together they decided to leave these senior jobs behind and build Mountain Quest to help people achieve growth through quests for Knowledge, Meaning, and Consciousness, using science, humanistic, and spiritual methodologies. Via the institute's publishing arm, MQIPress, they have published over 40 books around these topics, they built a magnificent library with over 40,000 volumes that they hand-picked, and they have led retreats and workshops for individuals, groups, and businesses since 2002. Their beautiful farm property, 450 acres with magnificent views of the Appalachian and unique facilities, is located in the quiet zone where unplugging is a necessity. It provides a one of a one-of-a-kind place to unplug, improve your well-being, have an adventure, and expand your horizons. Alex and David are retired and we are working to continue their legacy, attract thought leaders, and help expand knowledge and world betterment.
We Are Unique
The Radio Quiet Zone
Mountain Quest is located in the US “Quiet Zone” where unplugging is more than a nice idea, but a necessity. The Quiet Zone is a 13,000-square-mile area in which radio transmissions are restricted to prevent interference with the telescopes of the Green Bank Observatory. This means that there are no cell towers, no radio stations, and in Mountain Quest there is also no Wi-Fi. A place where radiation levels are billions of times lower than anywhere else and practically non-existent like it used to be many decades ago.
Experience No Radiation
Mountain Quest is likely the only “quiet” hotel/Inn in the US with no ambient radiation and no wireless connection and "smart" devices on its premises. In addition to being located in the Quiet Zone, as a policy, the owners decided not to have Wi-Fi or “smart” technology on the premises. Therefore, there are no man-made harmful radio and microwave frequencies and radiation: not from cell towers or radio waves and not from “smart” devices. Being here in a place where the levels of radiation are billions of times lower and are practically non-existent will provide you with an unparalleled opportunity to be able to feel the difference in your well-being. You will still be able to use your cell phone and portable devices. The rooms are wired for ethernet and have cables with adaptors so people can plug in their devices to access the internet without exposure to harmful radiation.Mountain Quest is therefore a complete Quiet Zone, the one place where your body can detox, relax, heal, and rejuvenate in a comfortable setting.
Our Unique Facilities
A 450 acres farm with spectacular views of the Applacians. It is a magical place that provides a tranquil setting ideal for learning and healing. Practically heaven. It includes a rare and inspiring 40,000-plus volume library hand-picked by the owners to expand people’s minds. It provides an exceptional collection of cutting-edge knowledge ranging from neuroscience, organization, physics and quantum theory to art, spirituality, religion and the paranormal. The beautiful chandelier, unique artifacts and comfortable leather sofas create a place you do not want to leave. Because it is a “quiet zone” and the brain is not attacked by “bad frequencies,” reading is easy. There is a horse farm with Quarterhorses, Arabians, and mini horses that provides the opportunity to engage in equine therapy and enjoy their calming energy. We also have two mini donkeys and chickens. There are hiking trails on the property; a running creek that allows visitors to relax to the sound of running water, a large fire-pit to enjoy outdoor social night gatherings, a swing and a labyrinth for spiritual growth. There is also a small gym and a sauna for further detoxing. On the second floor you can enjoy a game room with a pool table, sofas, and a collection of over 1,000 DVDs organized by genre. Being located in the quiet zone with almost no light pollution, the starnight is spectacular. The facility even has its own observatory with a glass ceiling and a telescope. Mountain Quest has a beautiful conference center that can easily host 60 people and an Inn with 12 rooms and a total of 22 beds. Each of the rooms is designed with its own unique theme. The beautiful grounds are also an ideal setting for outdoor events and gatherings.

The Inn
Like everything in Mountain Quest, our rooms are unique too and each of the 12 rooms is designed according to a different theme. There are King, Queen, and Twin beds size options and a room in which pets are allowed.
The Farm & Grounds
On the 450 acres, we have a horse farm with Quarter Horses, Arabians, and Mini Horses. We also have chickens and ducks. We have hiking trails, a labyrinth for spiritual growth, and a running stream.
The Institute & Events
Mountain Quest Institute was established to have conferences, events, and retreats. Its conference center can host up to 60 people, it has a library, a game room, outdoor space for events, and a commercial kitchen.
